My Nice Sunday...

It's been exactly two years and three days since my father's passing. So, today we had tahlil prayers at the house which saw my two aunts, uncles, cousins, cousin's children joining in the gathering. My mom cooked up a simply divine feast of chicken curry, mutton kurma, chapati and rice.... could I have salivated more? Ya ha! Coz my aunts both brought yummy chocolate cake, chicken rendang, pulut kuning and payasam (a sweet North Indian dessert).

Shot thru the heart! And you're to blame!
You give love a bad name!
I play my part and you play your game!
You give love a bad name!

Sorry. Bon Jovi got a hold on me for a while there. Son of a %^^&... that song is so good it rocks the crap out of me! Anyway... where was I?.. Right, after our stomaches were full from the good food, the boys and men retired to their seats on the sofa like pythons after a hearty meal, while the women (yes, including yours truly) occupied the dining chairs and engaged in some light after lunch conversation. You see, this is how family gatherings in my family work (and I'm sure it's kind of the same in other families too). The men will be discussing about politics, the boys ... well, knowing my cousins, will probably cover football, jamming and whatever while the women, well let's see... the latest trend in hairstyling, the scoop on celebrities, Botox and how the fatwa council has banned it for Muslims, body changes (don't ask!), child birth, ... whole lotta stuff there. The little kiddies have it good if you ask me. My niece was the ring leader for my cousin's children upstairs, didn't give a care in the world as they were anxious to watch how Marlin was going to find Nemo (don't get me started on that too!). Sigh...
I love my family gatherings. It's really just the merriment of it all. I also noticed that my niece has picked up a trait of mine when I was a child ... that is feeling that pang of sadness when it's over. I know it's silly but I remember everytime during Hari Raya in Penang, when my cousins and aunts and uncles would leave to go home, I would just cry. (I know... most people would just pray their relatives would leave sooner). Sarah was a little sad when her cousins had to leave today. She just hung on to her father and didn't wanna say goodbye to them. I guess being an only child (am positive my sister will not procreate any further) doesn't help either. Anyway she snapped out of it real quick and decided serenade me with all the nursery rhymes she knows.

So that was that. On Saturday night when I was watching the AFI's Tribute to Sean Connery on Astro, it also reminded me of my father because he loved Connery's movies, all the James Bond ones especially. I just wished I had saved his bulky collection VHS tapes of Connery's movies. Could have been a vintage decorative item.

Watched the premier of Entourage on HBO last night. Kind of a lame script and story line to boot. I mean come on, it's deemed the male equivalent of Sex and the City. Please! It is no where near SATC. The story centres around four straight guys, Vince Chase (played by Adrien Greiner from Drive Me Crazy), Eric, Turtle and Drama (played by Kevin Dillon, Matt Dillon's less attractive younger brother), who to me, look like they're experiencing some culture shock in LA after Vince's premier of his new movie with Jessica Alba. It's obvious that the three are somewhat living off Vince's fame. Partying, chicks left, right and centre, celebrity parties.. you get the picture. Vince, on the other hand, has no opinion because he relies on Eric (who is his underpaid "manager") to make all the decisions. The four go everywhere together... I guess that's how the title was born. I swear it's as if the story is saying, "Ok guys, I'm Vince Chase. I'm the star and you guys are my kuli! Comprende?"

Shees....
