"Our ships should sale in the same direction" - The Godfather
I finally did it. It took a little time ... a lot of postponing and procrastinating (hey, it's me!) but, I am proud to say I have watched all three movies of The Godfather - The Godfather, The Godfather II and The Godfather III. I actually made it my priority to watch the great trilogy ... universally regarded as the definitive Mafia film. I'm gonna be honest. The reason I spent nine-odd hours of my life (Ya ha! Each movie is a little more than three hours!) watching the trilogy, aside from being an Al Pacino fan, was because the lines from The Godfather were quoted so widely in other movies and TV shows that I just had to see what the immense glorification was all about! There I said it. Tom Hanks quoted lines from The Godfather in You've Got Mail. Matt Le Blanc (Joey Tribbiani) quoted a line in Friends and there were others but I can't remember now. So, my curiosity got the best of me and before I knew it, I borrowed all three DVDs from a school friend of mine. It's the movie that, I think, most testoterone-driven men relate to. It's not personal, it's business. It's not personal, it's business! I can see why. It's all about power and stature. The Id. Needless to say, Pacino was outstanding in his role as Michael Corleone, the youngest son of Vito Corleone a.k.a Don Corleone / The Godfather. This guy has received numerous awards for his kick-ass roles. One of my favourites is the baddy football coach in Any Given Sunday. He's just the coolest. Enough said. He and Robert DeNiro. Sexy Italianos I say! Uomini bei! My next mission is to watch Scarface, also one of Pacino's classic movies. I must say ol' Al looked mighty good in his hey days, and even better now. He's like fine wine ... they get better when they're aged.
