Random Ramblings

Any of you who watched Grey's Anatomy on Wednesday would know what I'm talking about. During the entire hour of the show, I thought to myself, "what would I do if I were in that woman's shoes?". This woman, a friend of the Shephards, was carrying a cancer gene she inherited from her mother, who just passed away from breast cancer. Technically, she didn't have cancer, but just had a 75% chance of getting it and a 25% chance of not. Fearing the worse, she wanted the doc (Addison) to remove her breasts, ovaries and uterus. Remember, this was a healthy woman who was excited to have a baby with her husband. Her husband couldn't understand her decision. Of course, the male doctors couldn't rationalise this woman's decision to take away her "womanhood". Their conclusion was that removing her breasts and reproductive organs wouldn't make her less of a woman. But think about this (this question was thrown by Izzy to ithat dude she's dating); "If a guy knew he had the cancer gene and had to remove his testicles, would he think of himself as less of a man?" The dude was silent.

Would we think less of him? Really, honestly. Somehow there's this double-standard in this issue. I guess it's because (this is just my view ok) you can't actually see the woman's reproductive parts, whereas for the guy, his "extension of his manhood" would be ... gone. I don't know, it's something to ponder over. I would agree with Izzy's opinion that the woman should wait and see if she actually has cancer, then fight like hell. Come on, with advanced medical technologies, we can detect cancer now at a very early stage. What if she doesn't get it?

If it were me, I'd wait. Although if this was a real situation, I'd still respect her decision. What about you, people?

Moving on, Radd, Dwi and I had a very interesting Saturday night discussion at Starbucks in SS15 yesterday. I mean, we covered quite a lot of topics from politics to entertainment to geography to the Brunei Sultan's gold toilet bowl. Yikes, it'll be damn cold to sit on! When all of us started yawning at 1am, we took it as a cue to scadaddle.

Last week, I dreamt that I was one of the cast of Ed! For those of you who watch the show, I was actually having a conversation with Carol and Ed at the Pie Shop. Damn, he's hot!

Later.
